TUMMY TUCK

Abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is designed to restore a smooth, toned abdominal contour by removing excess skin and tightening the underlying muscles. This transformative procedure helps patients achieve balance and confidence after pregnancy, weight loss, or other life changes that affect the abdomen’s shape and tone.

DR. SCHULTZ'S APPROACH

Dr. Kelly Schultz takes a personalized, anatomy-based approach to abdominoplasty. Her goal is to create a natural, refined contour that harmonizes beautifully with her patient’s body proportions. Rather than simply tightening or flattening, she focuses on restoring core strength, improving posture, and sculpting smooth, balanced transitions between the abdomen, waist, and hips.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE

An abdominoplasty may be ideal for patients who:

  • Have loose or sagging skin after pregnancy or significant weight loss

  • Experience weakened or separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti)

  • Struggle with stubborn fullness or laxity that does not respond to exercise

  • Desire a flatter, smoother, and more defined midsection

Patients seeking long-lasting, natural results and improved core strength often find abdominoplasty to be life-changing, both physically and emotionally. For women planning future pregnancies, it is typically recommended to wait until after childbearing to preserve the longevity of results.

SURGICAL TECHNIQUES

MINI ABDOMINOPLASTY

Best for patients with mild laxity limited to the lower abdomen. Involves a shorter incision and quicker recovery.

FULL ABDOMINOPLASTY
The most common approach, addressing the full abdominal wall, tightening muscles, and removing excess skin for a smooth, natural contour.

EXTENDED ABDOMINOPLASTY
Ideal for patients with excess tissue extending to the flanks or hips, providing comprehensive contour refinement.

FLEUR-DE-LIS ABDOMINOPLASTY
Designed for those with significant vertical and horizontal skin excess, often after major weight loss, offering transformative reshaping.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Abdominoplasty is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 3 to 4 hours. Incisions are carefully planned to be low on the abdomen, hidden by most clothing and swimwear. In almost all cases, liposuction is performed to further contour the waist and the abdominal muscles are repaired for improved strength and contour. The excess skin is then removed, and the belly button is carefully repositioned while ensuring a proportionate and natural appearance. A supportive compression garment is placed at the end of the procedure, and most patients return home the same day or after a short overnight stay.

RECOVERY AND HEALING

Lymphatic massage may be recommended during recovery to enhance circulation, reduce swelling, and optimize results.

DAYS 0-5

Mild swelling and tightness are expected. Patients are encouraged to walk lightly to promote circulation.

WEEKS 1-2

Swelling and bruising begin to subside. Abdominal drains are removed. Many patients return to light daily activities after about 10 days.

WEEKS 3-6

Abdominal contour continues to refine as the incision heals and the core muscles strengthen. Gradual return to exercise is permitted after clearance.

MONTHS 3-6

Final results are visible.
