BREAST REVISION

Breast revision surgery is a highly individualized procedure designed to restore harmony, comfort, and confidence following a prior breast augmentation or reconstruction. Whether due to changes in aesthetic preference, aging, implant issues, or natural body changes, revision surgery allows for the restoration of balance, comfort, and confidence. The goal is always to create results that look soft, natural, and beautifully proportionate.

DR. SCHULTZ'S APPROACH

Dr. Kelly Schultz approaches breast revision surgery with exceptional care and attention to detail. Revisions require not only technical skill but also an artistic eye and a gentle understanding of the emotional side of surgical transformation.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE

Ideal candidates for breast revision surgery are individuals who are healthy, emotionally prepared, and understand the complexities of revision procedures. Because revision surgery is more complicated than primary breast augmentation or lift for technical and emotional reasons, realistic expectations and a collaborative approach are essential.

Breast revision may be appropriate for patients who:

  • Desire a change in implant size, shape, or projection to better suit their body or aesthetic goals

  • Have developed asymmetry, capsular contracture, rippling, or implant malposition

  • Wish to remove or replace older implants for comfort or cosmetic refinement

  • Experience skin laxity or volume changes from aging, pregnancy, or weight fluctuations

  • Are seeking improvement, not perfection, and understand that revision surgery aims to restore balance and natural harmony rather than recreate an entirely new result

Because revision procedures involve operating through pre-existing scars and altered tissue planes, outcomes depend heavily on tissue quality, anatomy, and prior surgical history. For this reason, Dr. Schultz takes great care to educate her patients about the variables and limitations inherent to revision surgery, while outlining the many ways precision and artistry can restore beauty and confidence.

SURGICAL TECHNIQUES

Because each revision is unique, the surgical plan is fully customized to your anatomy and goals. Some of the most common techniques include:

IMPLANT EXCHANGE

Replacing existing implants with new ones—whether smaller, larger, or a different material—to achieve a refreshed and natural contour aligned with your aesthetic vision.

CAPSULECTOMY OR CAPSULOTOMY

Removing or releasing tight scar tissue around the implant to restore softness and symmetry.

POCKET REVISION AND IMPLANT PLANE ADJUSTMENT

When implants have shifted or the breast borders no longer appear natural, the pocket may need to be adjusted. In some cases, the implant repositioned to a different plane (such as from dual plane or submuscular to subfascial). This allows for improved soft tissue coverage, better contour, and a more harmonious transition between the breast and chest wall.

INTERNAL SUPPORT AND MESH REINFORCEMENT ("INTERNAL BRA")

In select cases, a biocompatible mesh or scaffold material may be used to reinforce the breast pocket and redefine the natural borders of the breast. This technique helps maintain implant position, prevent recurrent sagging, and enhance long-term shape and support, particularly in patients with thin tissue or prior stretching.

BREAST LIFT (MASTOPEXY)

Combining revision with a lift can restore youthful shape and projection, especially when skin or tissue laxity is present.

EXPLANTATION (IMPLANT REMOVAL)

For patients choosing to remove implants entirely, techniques such as tissue reshaping or fat grafting can help restore volume and balance.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Breast revision surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes two to three hours, depending on the complexity of the case. Incisions are placed thoughtfully, often within prior scars or natural folds.

Dr. Schultz reshapes the breast tissue, adjusts implant position or size, and carefully closes incisions using fine suturing techniques to promote smooth healing and graceful results. Most patients return home the same day.

RECOVERY AND HEALING

Dr. Schultz provides detailed postoperative care instructions and follow-up to ensure smooth recovery and long-term satisfaction.
