BREAST LIFT

A breast lift, or mastopexy, restores a youthful, uplifted shape to the breasts by tightening the skin envelope, reshaping the internal tissue, and repositioning the nipple-areolar complex. The goal is to rejuvenate the breasts with a natural, elegant contour, enhancing shape while maintaining softness, balance, and proportion.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE

A breast lift may be ideal for patients who:

  • Have loss of breast firmness or volume following pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight changes

  • Notice nipples that point downward or sit below the breast crease

  • Have asymmetry or uneven fullness between the breasts

  • Desire improved projection and shape without necessarily increasing size

  • Are in good health, do not smoke, and are at a stable weight

During your consultation, Dr. Schultz will discuss your goals, lifestyle, and anatomy to determine whether a lift alone or a lift combined with augmentation or reduction will best achieve your desired result.

SURGICAL TECHNIQUES

There are several breast lift techniques, each tailored to different degrees of laxity and aesthetic goals:

PERIAREOLAR (DONUT) LIFT

Ideal for mild lifting, this approach involves an incision around the areola to subtly elevate and refine breast shape.

VERTICAL (LOLLIPOP) LIFT

Used for moderate lifting, this technique combines an incision around the areola with a vertical incision down to the breast fold. It allows for reshaping of the lower breast while maintaining elegant proportion.

ANCHOR (INVERTED-T) LIFT

Best suited for more significant laxity or skin excess, this method allows comprehensive reshaping and repositioning of both breast tissue and nipple-areola complex. Despite the larger incision pattern, careful closure minimizes scar visibility over time.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Breast lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes two to three hours. After carefully elevating and reshaping the breast tissue, Dr. Schultz repositions the nipple and areola to a youthful, natural height. The skin envelope is then tightened and refined to achieve a smooth, balanced contour. Incisions are designed to blend into natural borders whenever possible.

At the end of surgery, the breasts are supported with a soft, surgical garment to protect and patients return home the same day with detailed instructions for comfort, incision care, and activity.

RECOVERY AND HEALING

DAYS 0-3

Expect mild swelling and tightness across the chest. Discomfort is usually minimal and well managed with prescribed medication.

WEEKS 1-2

Most patients feel comfortable resuming light daily activities and desk work within a week. Bruising and swelling gradually improve.

WEEKS 3-6

The breasts continue to settle into their new position. Incisions begin to fade and smooth. Return to light exercise is permitted around four weeks, with full activity typically allowed by six weeks.

MONTHS 3-6

Final results become visible. Breasts feel soft, natural, and harmoniously proportionate. Scars continue to refine and lighten over time.
