BLEPHAROPLASTY

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, rejuvenates the eyes by refining the delicate contours of the upper and lower eyelids. This delicate procedure restores a refreshed, rested appearance while maintaining each patient’s natural expression and character. When performed with precision and artistry, it subtly brightens the face and enhances natural beauty.

DR. SCHULTZ'S APPROACH

Dr. Kelly Schultz approaches eyelid surgery with a focus on harmony, proportion, and restraint. Her goal is to restore youthful smoothness and vitality to the eye area while maintaining a patient’s natural expression.

Every eyelid procedure is highly individualized. Dr. Schultz carefully evaluates eyelid anatomy, skin quality, and facial proportions to develop a customized plan. Some patients benefit primarily from subtle skin removal or fat repositioning, while others require gentle volume restoration to achieve a soft, blended result.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE

Ideal candidates for blepharoplasty are those who:

  • Have drooping or hooded upper eyelids that cause a tired appearance or obstruct vision

  • Experience puffiness or under-eye bags from protruding fat pads

  • Notice fine lines or skin laxity around the lower eyelids

  • Desire a more refreshed, awake appearance without changing their natural eye shape

  • Are in good general health and have realistic expectations

Blepharoplasty may be performed alone or in combination with other procedures, such as brow lift, facial fat grafting, or facelift, for comprehensive rejuvenation.

UPPER BLEPHAROPLASTY

Upper blepharoplasty removes excess skin and, when needed, small amounts of fat from the upper eyelids to restore a smooth contour. Incisions are carefully placed within the natural crease of the upper lid, allowing them to be virtually invisible once healed.

This procedure takes about one hour and can be performed comfortably in the office under local anesthesia. The result is a refreshed, open look that enhances your natural eye shape and symmetry.

LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY

Lower blepharoplasty addresses puffiness, under-eye bags, and lower eyelid skin laxity, restoring a smooth undereye contour. Dr. Schultz’s technique focuses on subtlety and natural blending, avoiding overcorrection or hollowness.

Incision Options:

  • Transconjunctival Incision: Placed inside the lower eyelid with no external scar. This approach is ideal for patients with good skin tone who primarily need fat repositioning or contour smoothing.

  • Subciliary Incision: Placed just below the lash line to allow removal of excess skin and fine tightening. This incision heals beautifully and becomes nearly invisible over time.

In almost all lower eyelid procedures, Dr. Schultz combines blepharoplasty with facial fat grafting to restore soft volume and blend the lid–cheek junction seamlessly. This integration ensures a youthful, natural transition between the lower eyelid and midface, enhancing overall facial harmony.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Blepharoplasty is performed as an outpatient procedure, typically taking one to two hours depending on the areas treated. Local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia may be used for comfort.

Dr. Schultz uses delicate techniques to remove or reposition fat and refine skin with minimal tension. Fine sutures are placed for precise closure, and cool compresses are applied after surgery to minimize swelling. Patients return home the same day with detailed aftercare instructions.

RECOVERY AND HEALING

Most patients are comfortable returning to social activities within 7–10 days. Makeup may be applied to conceal any mild residual discoloration after one week.

DAYS 0-3

Mild swelling and bruising are normal and well managed with cool compresses. Temporary blurred vision may occur due to protective ointments.

WEEK 1

Sutures are removed, and most swelling subsides. Light activity can resume.

WEEKS 2-3

Bruising fades, and eyes appear brighter and more defined.

MONTHS 1-3

Final results become apparent. Eyes look rested, smooth, and naturally refreshed.
